A debate competition was jointly organised by Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysian University Debate Council (MADUM) and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) from 12 until 15 January 2024 at the Cyberjaya campus. The grand finale of Pertandingan Debat Kepenggunaan Antara Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Piala Menteri Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup 2024 was held with four finalists: Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Teknikal Melaka (UTeM) and MMU debated over the consumerism issue.
The closing event was officiated by the Minister of KPDN, YB Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud delivered a welcoming speech to the audience who attended the closing ceremony at the Dewan Tun Canselor. Among other event attendees were Prof. Ts. Dr. Hj Lokma. Hj Ismail, Chairman of MADEM, Dr. Hazami Jahari, Director-General of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP); Prof Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Market Exploration, Engagement & Touchpoint, ministry representatives and members of the media.
Prof. Dato’ congratulated the students’ committee for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the event was a success. As a result, the UiTM team emerged as the champion of the competition and walked away with a cash prize of RM5,000, trophy, plaque, reading materials sponsored by DBP and certificates, while the UM team clinched the second-place winning cash prize of RM3,000 and brought home plaque, reading materials sponsored by DBP and certificates.
