On 23 January 2024, a total of 14 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) showcased their innovative projects under the subject coordination of Dr. Palanisamy Chockalingam at the Robospace, Melaka campus. Each group had to present their work, demonstrating a deep understanding of Additive Manufacturing concepts.

The students’ presentations were evaluated by Mr. Fan Len Peng, Head of Department for SEA Prototyping and Metrology at Dyson. His insightful evaluations added an extra layer of expertise to the judging process, offering valuable industry perspectives to the participating students. The event not only provided a platform for academic exchange, but also bridged the gap between academia and industry, reinforcing the practical applications of Additive Manufacturing.

In a separate event, Mr. Fan also was invited to conduct an industry talk, “Design Engineering the Dyson Way” to 36 Mechanical and Robotics & Automation students on 22 January 2024. The talk unveiled Dyson’s unparalleled commitment to innovation, emphasising their unique approach to solving overlooked problems with groundbreaking inventions.

The speaker provided insights into their relentless dedication to inventing and improving Dyson machines, showcasing an unwavering focus on performance. Mr Fan, with two decades of expertise in Design for Manufacturing and rapid prototyping, offered invaluable real-world perspectives. The session also highlighted opportunities through the James Dyson Foundation, leaving students inspired and equipped with knowledge about the exciting possibilities within Dyson’s world of design engineering excellence.
