On 10th December 2022, King Sejong Institute (KSI) MMU Melaka hosted another exciting event, KPOP Dance Competition at Mahkota Parade, Melaka. A total of 10 teams were selected as finalists namely Team XJC, Team Ze’roses, Team Dancing Devils, Team DGX, Team Remix, Team Infinix, Team DANCEROAD, and Team Empty, while two individuals competed as solo dancers in the competition.
Dr. Ong Sue Lyn, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Communication cum Director of KSI MMU Melaka officiated the competition and welcomed the crowd to enliven the event. The competition kicked off with a special performance called ARIRANG, a traditional Korean folk song that was performed by KSI MMU Melaka staff and MMU students as well as members of the Melaka Korean Culture Centre.
The dance performances were judged by Mr. Jay from Dynamix Dance & Music Academy. As a result, team DANCEROAD won the competition and walked away with prizes worth RM2,000. While team DGX was announced as the first runner up and team REMIX secured the second runner-up. The winners received prizes worth RM1500 and RM1,000 respectively.
The crowd also cast their votes for the Popularity Award among the finalists and Team Ze’roses won the award. The event also engaged the crowd with a quiz session and concluded with a speech by Ms. Kim Hee Jung, Manager of KSI MMU Melaka. All in all, the event was a success, and it is hoped that this activity could help to raise awareness of Korean culture in the community.
