A team led by Ms. Nun Shwu Huey from the Faculty of Business (FOB) hosted the Vicennial Alumni Reunion (“VAR”) for Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) Permata Dunia, class of 2002 on 16 December 2022 at FOB Conference Room. A total of 17 alumni who are currently attached to prominent organisations, which include Ernst and Young, DKSH Malaysia, Econpile Holdings Berhad, Infineon Technologies (Malaysia), IGLO International Ltd, Honda Logistics Malaysia, CIMB Retail Enterprise Distribution Division Melaka, Halcyon Agri Corporation Ltd., Parlo Berhad, Bradken, Baker Hughes Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., IQI Realty (Sabah), Growing Bean Worm Farm, and Cohu Malaysia participated in the event.

Dr. Mohd Rizal bin Abdul Razak, Melaka Campus Director, delivered his welcoming remarks during the session. Thereafter, Dr. Lye Chun Teck, Dean of FOB, briefed on Multimedia University’s (MMU) current programmes, achievements of students’ and staff, and industrial collaborations. He also thanked all the alumni for returning to their alma mater and encouraged them to partake in future collaboration avenues. 

During the reunion, the alumni reminisced their memories of their lecturers and MMU that they believe have left an indelible mark on all of them. Former academic staff of MMU, Dr. Lim Kwee Pheng at the reunion also reflected her love for and appreciation to the alumni and the university. In short, the reunion, which marked the alumni’s 20th year anniversary, was a day of nostalgia as beautiful old memories came flooding back. It also commemorates the beginning of more alumni-alma mater initiatives in the future.  

Besides the reunion, the faculty also hosted a career talk from industry professionals on the same day. More than 50 students took part in the talk which was led by Mr. Ryan Gan Chee Kian at Melaka campus. Mr. Ryan is currently attached to Baker Hughes Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. He also holds a position as the Industrial Advisor for the Diploma in Accounting programme. Among other panellists for the talk Ms. Cynthia Lai. Ms. Keok Chui Hong, Mr. Lau Kent Lit, Ms. Lim Hong Ee, Ms. Lim Lau Peng, Mr. Lim Wei Cheng, Ms. Marina Chin, Ms. May Tan, Mr. Ng Eng Kiat, Ms. Qu Kien Yuen, Ms. Renee Poh, Ms. Suzanna Chong, Ms. Tan Hua Mai, Mr. Tan Liang Yek, Ms. Wendy Lim, and Ms. Yau Lee Ling. 

The students were exposed with in-depth tips and knowledge on securing and maintaining a promising career. The topics ranged from strengthening teamwork skills at workplaces, the increasing use of artificial-intelligence-based data analytics, mental health, nurturing high emotional quotient and values, lifelong learning, and treating the university as the best place to equip oneself with a myriad of technical and soft skills. The students also engaged with the speakers through a Q&A session. Overall, the students found the session to be enriching and insightful.
