Let us congratulate Team Minerva, which comprises two MMU students namely Lim Min Ying from the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) and Neha Bhubhindar Singh from the Faculty of Management (FOM), alongside their teammates Christine Choo Wan Teng, Jovita Ooi Sue Anne, and Law Jolyn for winning the first runner-up at the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2022. Mentored by Mr. Vincent Chan from the Faculty of Business (FOB), the team brought home a cash prize of RM10,000 on 3rd September 2022.

Team Minerva’s journey started off from the preliminary round consisting of 44 participating teams, which were then shortlisted to the Top 12 finalists for the Final Round held at The Ship Campus, Batu Kawan, Penang. The final round of this competition was officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, accompanied by Yang Berhormat (YB) Soon Lip Chee, Penang State Executive Councillor and Dr Sai Ling Gwee, the Dr. Gwee Sai Ling, the General Manager of Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).

The business idea that was pitched by Team Minerva was the introduction of their product, e-Cluck, which refers to the creation of a sustainable alternative for chicken feed in Penang. Their business idea was inspired by the recent hike in chicken prices in Malaysia. At the same time, the issue of increasing food waste caught the team’s eye, which encouraged the girls to utilise this opportunity by using food scraps as the main ingredient for their chicken feed, and hence, e-Cluck was born. Team Minerva was also the only team in the Top 3, despite being at the ideation stage as the champion and the second runner-up of this challenge were existing start-ups.

Organised by PYDC, this event served as a platform for young entrepreneurs to present and develop their business ideas, which can greatly contribute to the positive development of young people and the communities. The challenge was participated by varsity students from different institutions as well as working adults from diverse backgrounds and start-up company. Ms. Putri Syaidatul Akma Mohd Adzmi, Deputy Director of Alumni Engagement, Carer and Entrepreneurship Development (ACED) also attended the event representing MMU President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud.

Well done and all the best in your future undertakings!
