Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) and Daikin Research and Development Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. collaborated in holding a series of joint lectures on the elective course, EME3236 Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC).
The session was organised by the faculty through its Mechanical Engineering (ME) Programme and Centre for Advanced Mechanical and Green Technology (CAMGT). Dr. Chin Wai Meng, the Deputy General Manager of Daikin Research and Development Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. delivered the virtual lecture session on 17 and 24 June 2022, and the physical tutorial class on 29 June 2022, with regard to the topic of Classification of Air Conditioning.
During the virtual lecture session, the speaker gave valuable insights into the principles of HVAC and the types of chiller systems that are normally used in Malaysia. He also provided some commonly encountered problems in the installation of the air conditioning units. During the physical tutorial class, Dr. Chin engaged the students with interesting tutorial questions and some discussions on real-life examples. Apart from that, he brought the students into one of the AHU rooms at the lecture hall in CLC. His explanation of the operation of AHU was interesting to the students. All students attended both lecture sessions and tutorial classes. It is believed that the students are able to acquire essential knowledge by on-side description from the HVAC expert.
Prior to this joint-lecture collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Multimedia University and Daikin Research and Development Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in March 2022. The ME program and the faculty are positive and looking forward to having long-term joint-lecture collaboration with Daikin Malaysia in the future, including potential research and project collaborations.
