Congratulations to our students namely Dashania Elvira Gregory from the Faculty of Business (FOB), Yogha Ruepini a/p Kanagalingam, Ee Suan and Clarice Lee Kah Yee from the Faculty of Law (FOL) for bagging the second runner-up at the myIMPACT: Intervarsity Malaysia Public Advocacy Competition 2022 on 7th August 2022.
The team brought home a cash prize of RM1,000 and certificates. myIMPACT: Intervarsity Malaysia Public Policy Advocacy Competition is a national-level competition that aims to stimulate young minds in Malaysia to formulate and propose credible policy recommendations related to environmental protection and climate action aligned to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mentored by Mr. Vincent Chan, a FOB lecturer, the teams pitched their policy amazingly and impressed the judges. The judges were consisting of Tan Sri Jemilah Mahmood (Executive director of Sunway Centre for Planetary Health), Dato Yasmin Mohamad (Managing Partner at FutureReady Consulting & Pro-chancellor of Herriot-Watt University), Mr. Ahmad Farid ( Deputy Undersecretary of Climate Change Division from Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA), Mr Quek Yew Aun (Administrative & Diplomatic Officer at the Ministry of Energy & Natural Resources), IR Zulaikha Mokhtar (Senior Assistant Director of Industrial Compliance Section, Enforcement Division, DOE Putrajaya) and Moviin Damodaran ( Project Director of myIMPACT).
The winning team also had bigger opportunities to further discuss and develop their policy with some of the stakeholders. We would also like to give our greatest gratitude to the MMU community for the continuous support, especially for the voting session.
