We would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Team Raya for emerging as the winner of ‘Most Impactful Game Design’ for their Role-Playing Game (RPG) RAYA at Games Bagus, recently. Four MMU students from the 10 members of Team Raya were Muhammad Hafizuddin Hayat Abd Rani from the Faculty of Management (FOM); Goh Wei Hing from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM); Nur Sabrina Abdul Malik (FCM) and Neo Zhi Ming from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI). The team received USD 1,200 with 3 months of mentorship by a social impact mentor (Ms. Suraya Zainuddin from Ringgit Oh Ringgit) and a games industry mentor (Ms. Saqina Latif from Persona Theory Games) and a booth slot in LEVEL UP KL organised by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in October 2022.
Games Bagus, a four-day event, was organized by the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with Biji-biji Initiative and Synapze from 26th until 29th May 2022. The event aimed to empower Malaysian game creators to produce socially conscious games by honing their game design and narrative skills through training and mentorship.
RAYA is a story-based Role-Playing Game (RPG) that embarks the player on a fun adventure to achieve financial freedom. During the adventure, the player must navigate, utilize RPG mechanics, and use gamified financial products such as insurances, credit cards and shares to achieve financial freedom while facing threats based on reality such as credit card debts, loan shark harassment and scams alongside many other zany enemies. Team Raya was founded during ACE Summer Programme 2021 and it is a startup under MMU Startup Scheme mentored by Mr. Albert Quek, who is currently the Deputy Director of Alumni Engagement, Career and Entrepreneurship Development.
Well done!
