On 3 August 2022, a team of academics led by Ts. Dr. Zarina Che Embi visited SMK Cochrane Perkasa for a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP). This visit was a second visit to the school as a follow-up to the first visit that happened on 18 July 2022. The KTP was part of the implementation of her team’s research grant entitled “A Non-immersive Virtual Reality Training Framework for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder”, under the FRGS Fund.
With the grant, a Virtual Reality (VR) game was developed for autistic children with the objective of improving their social skills. The VR game consisted of the main game with 2 mini-games that the autistic children would have to complete. These visits were part of data collection to support research on utilising digital technology such as VR in the education of autistic children. Fourteen autistic children participated in the data collection.
The team also consisted of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Junaidi Abdullah and Dr. Wan Noorshahida Mohd Isa from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) and Dr Hafizuddin Mohd Yusof from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia (FCM). They were greeted by the Principal of the school, Hajah Maizatul Akmal Binti Sahudin, the HEP teacher, Puan Zalenah, and other Special Education (PPKI) teachers and staff. In attendance were student volunteers, Irfan Rosli, Irham Shaari, Wan Nur Atiqah and Wan Nur Nafisah.
