Mr. Lim Kian En, an alumnus from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) was invited to share his career journey in the field of Mechanical engineering and current insights into energy transition and sustainability. Mr. Lim, who earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the FET, is now a Senior Project Engineer of Sulzer Singapore.

With 10 years of working experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, and liquid beverage processing sectors, Mr. Lim provided an overview on the career prospect of Mechanical engineering from different aspects and functional roles. He talked about the Mechanical engineering career opportunity by various industries and also explained the engineering value chain specifically in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries.

Mr. Lim highlighted that the current energy demand is increasing with population and technological advancement. Engineering plays an essential role in the global energy landscape and green energy transformation towards a sustainable future. In the one-hour virtual talk session, Mr. Lim also shared his personal career achievements with the audience.

Apart from being a Mechanical engineer and pursuing his second master’s degree study in Energy and Sustainability, Mr. Lim Kian En is also actively participated in NGO activities and networking. He encouraged his fellow juniors to continually learn and improve their engineering skills and knowledge and to keep a balance between work and lifestyle.
