Multimedia University (MMU) launched its new hybrid learning spaces, HySpace and HyFlex at the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) on 20 January 2022. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, the President officiated the soft launch with the presence of Mr. Goh Thih Liang, Senior Director for Qualcomm Malaysia Sdn Bhd. HySpace is Hybrid Classroom Space for effective physical and virtual learning, while HyFlex is Hybrid and Flexible Learning space is meant for 21st century highly collaborative teaching and learning. The system includes Qualcomm Technologies’ Education-as-a-Service (EaaS) technology, which is a part of their IoT-as-as- Service (IoTaaS) comprised of hardware and software to be used by MMU community.
The learning spaces are in line with MMU’s role as the High-Tech Education Sandbox, where MMU and Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC), the lead secretariat of the National Technology and & Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) has collaborated to pave the way for MMU to focus on the solutions that can contribute to improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning pedagogies in hybrid-mode as well as preparing a highly competent and productive workforce with strong leadership and critical thinking hands-on technological skills.
Led by the Centre for Lifelong Education and Learning Innovation (LEARN) and Learning Innovation Department, more flexible and hybrid learning spaces to be implemented in both Cyberjaya and Melaka campuses by 2023. Also attending the event were Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan, Vice President of Academic and International Relations; Prof. Dr. Wong Chee Onn, Director of LEARN; representatives from Qualcomm Malaysia Sdn. Bhd, management committee members, academic staff, and students.
