More than 200 staff of Telekom Malaysia (TM) participated in the TM Value Leadership Programme virtually on 2 November 2021. Hosted by MMU Cnergy, the programme was kicked off with an opening speech by Puan Sarinah Abu Bakar, Chief Human Capital Officer of TM. The programme continued with a brown bag keynote address entitled ‘Transformational Leadership for Success’ by Yang Mulia Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Arif. Also attending the session was Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, the President of MMU.
Yang Mulia Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel shared his leadership journey and knowledge to the audience. He emphasised the vital role of the human resource in driving the company to create success. Based on the TM SUCCESS Leadership Competency & Digital Culture Enabler (DCE) Framework, the needs for leaders to be equipped with the right leadership competencies become more important. While most managers and leaders have a high level of expertise on the technical side of their work, but only a few have a substantial development in the human side of the job. The speaker also stressed emotionally intelligent leaders in creating higher productivity, providing better customer service, achieving greater sales and longer retention, especially in a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) environment.
The audience was also encouraged to develop a growth mindset and agility to proactively navigate the current pandemic in becoming more resourceful, vigilant and courageous in taking risks. On top of that, the audience also needs to understand how trust-building is important for relationships and how it can be developed further for team management. The keynote address also highlighted how optimism, resiliency and adaptability increase personal energy and team effectiveness. The one-hour session ended with a Q&A session from the audience.
