We would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Ts. Ir. Dr. Chan Yee Kit for receiving the Top Research Scientist Award 2021 from the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) this year. Dr. Chan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) was recognized as one of the 22 top-notch scientists during the virtual announcement by ASM on 28th September 2021.

The award is an initiative of the ASM, which focuses on promoting a culture of excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). Through this award, which was launched in 2012, the academy aspired to identify outstanding Malaysian research scientists who possess mindsets in order to move the country forward to an innovation-led economy.

Dr. Chan, is an outstanding researcher in the field of remote sensing in particular microwave remote sensing and he is focusing on advanced radar sensors development which includes imaging radar such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR) that can be used for environmental monitoring. He was involved in the design and development of Malaysia 1st airborne/UAV-based synthetic aperture radar, and currently focusing on ground-based SAR systems that can be used for slope and landslide monitoring. He is also working on the development of Drone Based Hyperspectral Imaging System for precision agriculture with the support of the MOSTI International Collaboration Fund to help the farmers to digitise their farms.
