On 7th October 2021, Mr. Kennedy Wai Chee Yong, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hello World Robotics was invited to present an introductory talk on Robot Operating System in the recent virtual industrial talk session by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET). More than 50 engineering students participated in the session.
Mr. Kennedy, who has more than 7 years of experience in building autonomous delivery robots, highlighted the general concepts of ROS as an open-source middleware or a tool that is capable to do controlling, planning, navigating, mapping for mobile robots and also acting as an ecosystem to share ideas in global.
Currently, ROS is going trendy that there are many robots running based on ROS. Mr. Kennedy explained the ROS basics which comprise the ROS master and the nodes for publishing and subscribing data. The one-hour virtual talk session has provided the audience with good exposure to ROS. The students are also encouraged to be equipped with some basic knowledge of ROS before embarking on a career as a robotics engineer.
