The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) recently organised a virtual industrial talk session, titled “Start a Career in the Telecommunication Industry”. The talk was conducted by Mr. Thiaku A/L Ramalingam from Huawei Technologies Malaysia. The speaker enlightened the students on an overview of the telecommunication industry in Malaysia and tips to start a career in the field.
Mr. Thiaku, a Senior Manager Services & Intelligent Operations Expert at Huawei Technologies Malaysia, is also an MMU FET alumni who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering majoring in Telecommunication in the year 2003. With 18 years of experience in leadership-oriented professional management in the telecommunication industry, he explained the current and future trends of the telecommunication industry that the advancement of mobile technology in the past decades and the evolution of cellular network from 0G to 5G is impacting the telco ecosystem and fostering substantial growth in the IoT markets.
At the end of the talk session, Mr. Thiaku provided insightful tips to the audience on identifying the prospective careers in the telecommunication industry and concluded the session with an encouraging quote from Alexander Graham Bell “Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open”.
