More than 30 students attended a virtual technical talk hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), recently. The session was conducted by  Mr. Lim Ee Ric, the industry guest speaker-cum-alumni with his interesting and insightful talk, entitled “From IoT to AIoT: AI as The Catalyst to IoT Implementation”.  Mr. Lim Ee Ric is an application manager in Telmark Group, who has been in the test and measurement industry with hands-on experience in high-speed digital data test and measurement, signal quality assurance, test automation solution development, and project management over the past 11 years.

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionised the world and enabled a wide range of potential applications including the advancement of neural processing unit (NPU) in the embedded system which leverages the Internet of Things (IoT) technology to the next level. During the sharing session, Mr. Lim Ee Ric briefed on the new technology trend and the concept of “Artificial Intelligence of Things” (AIoT) and gave examples of AI being the catalyst in the IoT applications and implementations. The students received good exposure and interesting information on the importance and relevancy of AI in IoT in a two-hour session. The success stories of AIoT implementations in the food manufacturing industry in Malaysia have proven that there are more promising applications in various industries to be unleashed by AIoT in the future.
