The Industrial Linkage Committee and Alumni Committee of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) launched a new webinar series with its alumni as guest speakers in sharing their expertise and experience with the aim to develop a culture of engagement between alumni from various fields of engineering professions and the current engineering students in the faculty. The first episode of the FET Alumni Webinar Series was kicked off on 12 August 2021 with the presence of Ir. Goh Su Kin, the Mechanical Engineering alumnus as the first guest speaker with his talk entitled “Introduction to Engineering Application in Palm Oil Processing & Industrial Safety Management”.

Ir. Goh Su Kin, who graduated in 2006, is currently a senior mill engineer at Lenga Palm Oil Industries Sdn. Bhd. With 15 years of experience in operation management and maintenance in the palm oil industry, he is also a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) in the Mechanical Engineering discipline and a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with Practicing Certificate (PEPC) with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). In addition, he is also on the Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) for the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical programme and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering programme in FET MMU.

In the virtual talk session, Ir. Goh Su Kin enlightened his audience who are mostly in their freshman year about the benefit of science and how the engineering principles are applied to every aspect of human life. He further explained the early and modern days of palm oil processing utilising the knowledge of thermodynamics and mechanics which have been learned in undergraduate mechanical engineering course.

He also emphasised the importance of occupational safety and health in the engineering workplace that all engineering work must comply with industrial safety regulations and requirements. During the interactive session with the audience, Ir. Goh shared his personal inspiring experience as an MMU FET graduate and encouraged the engineering juniors to unlock their career limits with the versatility of a Mechanical Engineering degree earned from MMU and become a Professional Engineer (PE) for the betterment of self as an engineer for the society.
