On 21 June 2021, Multimedia University (MMU), Research Synergy Foundation (RSF), and Canadian University, Dubai (CUD) organised Digital Futures International Congress or known as DIFCON 2021. The opening ceremony of the virtual event was officiated by YB Datuk Haji Ahmad Amzad Hashim, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI).

YB Datuk Haji Ahmad Amzad congratulated the organiser for ensuring the event went successfully in his speech. He also shared on the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (NSTIP). He also emphasised on the need to grow and empower local talent in research and development (R&D) which focusing on the national strategic areas. More than 200 participants attended the opening ceremony where Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, the President, delivered his welcoming speech while Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mardeni Roslee, General Congress Chair of DIFCON 2021 gave his introduction speech.

In line with 2030 Agenda for United Nation Sustainable Development, DIFCON 2021 served as a multidisciplinary platform for gathering scholars from different disciplines, to share ongoing research which related to digital futures of the society. The virtual congress was held for three days and received overwhelming participation from 18 countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, USA, India, Philippines, Austria, Egypt, Iraq, Japan, Pakistan, Morocco, Oman, Nepal, Nigeria, Thailand, China, and Australia. There were 327 papers that were submitted in this conference.

DIFCON 2021 hosted six conferences namely International Conference on Computer, Information Technology and Intelligent Computing (CITIC 2021), Multimedia University Engineering Conference (MECON 2021), International Conference on Technology and Innovation Management 2021 (ICTIM 2021), International Conference of Creative Multimedia (ICCM2021), International Conference on Communication, Language, Education and Social Sciences (CLESS21), and First International Conference on Law and Digitalisation 2021 (ICLD21).

Also attending the opening ceremony were Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Research, Industrial Collaborations, and Engagement MMU; Dr. Mohammed Djeddi, Vice President of Academic Affairs, CUD; Prof. Ir. Dr. Zulfadzli Yusoff, Director of Research Management Centre MMU; Dr. Hendrati Dwi Mulyaningsih, Co-General Chair of DIFCON, MMU Deans, directors, professors, academicians as well as worldwide participants.
