More than 300 visitors attended the Research Innovation Commercialisation Entrepreneurship Showcase (RICES) 2020 that was held virtually from 9th until 10th December 2020. Emceed by Mr. Francis Augustine Soosay, the official launching began with the welcoming remarks from Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, Vice President of Research, Industrial Collaboration & Engagement (RICE) followed by the opening address by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, MMU President. The ceremony also was livened up with a keynote address by Prof. Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail, President of Academy of Sciences Malaysia.
There were 194 exhibitors involved in the RICES 2020 Project Showcase with three different categories namely Research Project Showcase, Social Innovation Project Showcase and Startups Showcase. Aside from that, the exhibitors also involved in conference and Embedding Entrepreneurial Learning (EEL). The event also received external participants from Management and Science University (MSU), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) as well as the event sponsors; TOGL Technology and IX Telecom.
For the first time since its inception, RICES introduced Virtual Reality (VR) technology to springboard the virtual exhibition experience to the next level, by converting the in-person perspectives into an interactive and immersive virtual RICES experience. On top of that, the organiser also hosted a virtual conference for the first time, featuring oral presentations of some research findings. The highlight of the event was when the winners of Humanizing Innovation Award, Gold Medal, Silver Medal, Bronze Medal, Best Presentation for RICES 2020 Conference were unveiled during the closing ceremony.
