A group of eleven students from Multimedia University (MMU) participated in the Ragas Sports Climbing Championship 2019 at the Putrajaya Challenge Park. Organized by the Ragas Sports Climbing Club, and enabled by the sponsorship and support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, the sports meet was the peak event of the sports in the country, with many of its participants being national-level athletes.
Of our 11 representatives, half were novice climbers, and 2 female climbers won the first and third podiums in the novice speed category. They also grabbed the consolation prize for the ‘boulder’ category. A male novice climber won second place in the novice speed category. The Novice MMU Climbers did quite well. In the Novice Women – Speed Result Category, Fatin Afifah Azman snatched 1st place while Cynthia Emylda Anak Buniface the 3rd place. In the Novice Women – Boulder Result Category, Fatin scored 4th, while Cynthia 5th. On the men’s side, in the Novice Men – Speed Category, Muhammad Arham Zairol Akmar clinched the 2nd place. In the Novice Men – Boulder Category, Muhammad Arham scored 6th, while Anshorullah Shahrulzaman the 7th spot.
For the ‘OPEN’ category, the MMU climbers’ achievement was quite impressive, considering that the majority of the participants were national athletes who participated in the inter-state championship just the month before. In the Open Men – Boulder Category, Syafiq Alipah placed 12th, while Mohammad Azmi Bin Zahari 18th. For the Open Men – Speed Result Syafiq did better at securing the 10th spot, while Azmi the 12th place.
