A total of 19 students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) participated in an exciting 15-day International Students Exchange Programme at the Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) in Jakarta, Indonesia recently. Accompanying the students were Dr. Tan Pei Kian (Deputy Dean, Academic & Internationalisation I) and Mr. Tan Gek Siang, Terence (International Exchange Programme Coordinator) who were also invited as visiting academic scholars. The students and staff were well received by Dr. Ponco Budi Sulistyo (Dean, Faculty of Communication Science) who hosted a welcoming dinner.

Themed as “Go International, We Can”, the exchange programme was officiated by Dr. Ponco Budi Sulistyo who wished the students a fruitful exchange experience in Jakarta, Indonesia. The opening ceremony was graced by the attendance of Dr. Adi Nurmahdi (Director of Innovation, Alumni & International Cooperation), Dr. Ariani Wardhani (Dean, Faculty of Design and Creative Arts), Dr. MA. Theresa Bringas Nadro (Dean, College of Arts and Science, Tarlac Agricultural University, Philippines) and fellow faculty members.

The students attended a series of video production and editing workshops to produce documentary videos and posters with the theme of “Go International, We Can!”. The students also visited iNews (the largest TV network in South East Asia) and Leverate Media Asia (a multinational media agency headquartered in Germany) to gain exposure on the operations of the broadcasting industry in Indonesia. The students were also exposed with Indonesian culture and heritage with some visits to the historical places, such as the Textile Museum, National Gallery, Bogor Botanical Garden, as well as culinary and shopping spots.

During the exchange programme, Dr. Tan Pei Kian and Mr. Tan Gek Siang were invited as panelists for a panel discussion entitled “The Advantages of Digital Transformation in Asia: Business & Communication Perspective” and presented their research output on “Factors Affecting Consumer Purchase Intention on Social Media” and “Paving the Way of Tourism 4.0: Tourists’ Adoption of Augmented Reality Mobile Application”. They also conducted several guest lectures and workshops on leadership, entrepreneurship, integrated marketing communication, as well as job interview.

In the closing ceremony, the students from both universities presented a series of traditional and contemporary performance which mesmerised the audience and the presentation of certificates of achievement to the students.
