The very first International Conference on Communication, Language, Education, and Social Sciences (CLESS 2019) was successfully organised by Faculty of Applied Communication (FAC) from 11 until 12 November 2019 in Melaka Campus.

The interdisciplinary conference featured 6 themes namely: Communication, Language, Education, Psychology, Culture and Society and served as a platform and opportunity for academics, senior and novice researchers to meet, share and discuss ideas as well as to cross network for future collaborations. The conference received participation and support from participants all over Malaysia from various universities such as University of Malaya, University Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, SEGi University, and many more. International participants also came from Indonesia, Nigeria, and Pakistan. A total of 50 papers were presented in parallel sessions in designated venues in Common Lecture Concourse (CLC).

The conference was also honoured to have 3 dynamic keynote speakers who shared their expertise, experience and insight with the conference participants. The opening ceremony was graced by Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, the Vice President of Research & Innovation. It was followed by Dr. Ong Sue Lyn, Dean of FAC as well as Dr. Mohd Rizal Abdul Razak, the Melaka Campus Director and Professor Tan Sri Dr Ghauth Jasmon, the former MMU President, highlighted “What It Takes to Be in The Game – A Critical View of Higher Learning Institutions”. The second keynote speaker continued after lunch break and Professor Dr Kiranjit Kaur, a professor in public relations at the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA spoke passionately about “Reputation and Trust: Trekking Public Relations Ethics”.

On the final day, during the closing ceremony, the keynote speaker, Chief Executive Officer of IPG Mediabrands Malaysia, Mr. Bala Pomaleh shared an impressive speech on “Digital Media Trends and Disruptions”. After the successful completion of all the parallel sessions as well as the keynote addresses, the event came to an end with the certificate giving ceremony to the participants by Dr Mohd Rizal Abdul Razak and Dr Sareen Bhar. Participants left the conference with a satisfied heart, enriched knowledge and enhanced experience with many commenting that the event was well-organised and felt the personal touch and warmth of the committee members while looking forward to future conferences with FAC. The organising committee also expressing gratitude to all student volunteers especially from MILE and Kanagawa University.

The conference was chaired by Dr Sareen Kaur Bhar and the committee consisted of Chua Yong Eng, Asmida Ismail, Elaine Ang Hwee Chin, Zalina Ismail , Maaroff Abd. Rahman, Mohd Hairul Anuar Razak, Nor Huda Abdul Hamid, Nalini A/P R.S. Pragasam, Kim Hee Jung, Gabriela Ooi, Abd Rahim Abd Rahman, Masyitah Mahadi, Dr Rohaidah Mashudi, Badrul Husin, Tg. Shahraniza Tg. Abdul Jalal, Chin Chiu Jin, Nurhazlini and Osman Alwi. The advisors were Dr Ong Sue Lyn and Dr Hawa Rahmat, the Deputy Dean, Research and Innovation.
