On 29 July 2019, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) conferred the Alumni Achievement Award to Dr. Kevin Koay, an MMU alumnus who took the first-ever image of a black hole in April 2019. The award was presented by Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, the President of MMU during Dr. Koay’s public lecture entitled “From Cyberjaya To The Event Horizon Of A Black Hole” in Cyberjaya campus.
Dr. Kevin Koay obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electronics majoring in Telecommunications and Master of Engineering Science from MMU in 2004 and 2008 respectively. The university is proud to witness Dr. Kevin Koay’s achievement to be part of the discovery team in the most momentous breakthroughs in astronomy history. Dr. Koay shared his inspiring journey to more than 400 attendees including representatives from government agencies, Telekom Malaysia (TM), school and university students as well as the public. Also present during the lecture were Prof. Ir. Dr. Hairul Azhar Abdul Rashid, the Vice President of Research & Innovation and Dr. Ooi Chee Pun, the Dean of FOE.
