A group of students from Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) and Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) bagged the consolation prize at Robocon 2019. The competition was organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia in collaboration with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) at Dewan Sri Saujana, UNITEN from 5 until 7 April 2019.
34 universities participated in the competition. With the contest theme “Great Urtuu-Sharing the Knowledge”, two messenger robots, one manual controlled and one autonomous controlled were built to complete the task given in the competition. Other than that, the team was thrilled to have two prominent FET alumni, Mr William Hii How Hsin (graduated in 2002) and Mr Lee Chee Cheong (graduated in 2008) joining the force to provide technical advice and guidance. The duo is highly experienced in robotic-related project and were active in national and international robotic competitions during their undergraduate studies.
Led by FET staff, the team was honoured to receive the trophy from the MMU President, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq, who was one of the invited VIPs during the prize giving ceremony. The team also took home RM1, 000 cash prize, medal and certificate of participation. Also present during the event was Assoc. Prof. Dr Fazly Salleh Abas, the Dean of FET.
