On 2 May 2019, a group of FOB students from Diploma in Accounting witnessed the launching of Malaysia’s first ever commodities e-commerce trading platform operated by a Malaysian company, Commodities Global Trade Sdn. Bhd. (CGTSB) that holds the executive rights under Bohai Commodity Exchange of China (BOCE). The event was graced by Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya with his remarks that China was Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years. With the establishment of e-commerce platforms backed by the government, cross-border trade becomes safer, more effective and efficient for the businesses. The students and lecturers gained more insights on e-commerce through this educational trip.
Apart from that, a total of 30 students from Diploma in Accounting attended an Industrial Talk delivered by Mr. Faruq Arif Tajul Ariffin, the Vice President/Associate Audit Head-Islamic Banking & Shariah Audit of AmBank Group. The talk expounded on the overview and new updates in the accounting field as well as to encourage them to perform better in their studies. Mr. Faruq shared his 11 years’ working experience in the audit field. The talk also benefited newcomers as an eye-opener session for them to pursue their career in the field. Also present during the talk were Ms. Nun Shwu Huey, Deputy Dean for Academic and Internationalisation II FOB and lecturers.
Other than that, a total of 13 MMU students attended the Al Sharq Conference at the Royal Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 1 until 2 May 2019. The conference exposed on artificial intelligence, robotics and other disruptive technologies as a new era of the world. The speakers at this conference were YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia; John Keane, a Professor of Politics in Sydney University; Rumesya Kadak, a member of Turkish Parliament and many other significant speakers. The students gained more understanding of the importance of embracing transformation for progress and transformation.
A group of members of CPA Australian Student Charter attended a career fair organised by CPA Australia in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) recently. CPA Australia invited many notable names in the accounting industry such as Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PWC and multinational companies including Intel and Shell to be part of the programme. Through this career fair, several activities like motivational talk and CPA information session provided a clearer view of their potential future job prospects. Leadership games and lucky draw with an iPad and a drone as the ultimate prizes enlivened the surrounding of the event.
