Multimedia University (MMU) through its National Marketing Enrollment (NME) and Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) hosted My STEMapps Challenge 2018, a national level competition in developing apps, recently.
A total of 40 students from 10 selected schools nationwide participated in the competition which served to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among school students. Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur bagged first place and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Baru Ampang was announced as the first runner-up. SMK Gemilang from Pulau Pinang won the second runner-up in the competition. All of the winners received cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,000 and RM300 respectively with trophies and certificates.
The Assistant Principal Director of Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan MOE, Dr. Fatimah Hashim commented that MOE was pleased with the outcome of the competition and the apps will be the way forward for teaching and learning process. On the other hand, MMU was applauded for its contribution in nurturing the students with the technology when the competition was based on hands-on learning approach. It also helped the students in developing their soft skills and abilities such as problem-solving, teamwork, creativity and critical thinking.
