FOB Students Experience Cultural Learning via International Students Exchange Programme 2018 to UMB, Jakarta

A total of 22 students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) participated in an exciting 15-day for International Students Exchange Programme at the Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) in Jakarta, Indonesia recently. Accompanying the students were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gerald Goh Guan Gan (Dean of FOB), Dr. Tan Pei Kian (Deputy Dean, Academic & Internationalisation I) and Mr. Tan Gek Siang, Terence (International Exchange Programme Coordinator) who were also invited as visiting researchers. The students and staff were well received by Prof. Ir. Dana Santoso Saroso (Vice Rector for Innovation, Alumni and International Relations, UMB) who hosted a welcoming dinner.

Themed as “Get Closer, Learn Together”, the exchange programme was officiated by Dr. Agustina Zubair (Dean, Faculty of Communication Sciences) who wished the students a fruitful exchange experience in Jakarta, Indonesia. The students attended a series of video production and editing workshops to produce documentary videos and posters with the theme of “Peace Without Hoax”, which were used as promotional materials in an international knowledge transfer programme to raise public awareness about information hoax. The students also visited Da Ai TV Channel to gain exposure on the operations of the broadcasting industry in Indonesia. The students were also exposed with Indonesian culture and heritage with some visits to the historical places.

During the exchange programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gerald Goh Guan Gan was invited as a guest lecturer to share with the postgraduate students about “Trends in Corporate Communication Research”. Also, Dr. Tan Pei Kian and Mr. Tan Gek Sing, Terence were invited as  panellists for a panel discussion entitled “The Advantages of Digital Transformation in Asia: Business & Communication Perspective” and presented their research output on “Customer Purchase Intention on Online Grocery Shopping” and “Application of Technologies for the Tourism Sector”, respectively.

In the closing ceremony, the students from both universities presented a series of traditional and contemporary performances which mesmerised the audience and the presentation of certificates to the Best Participant and Best “Peace Without Hoax” Documentary Project Group.
