A total of 14 students from the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) travelled to the Philippines for knowledge and cultural exchange recently. This two-week programme was organised by the FET and College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT), De La Salle University- Dasmariñas (DLSU-D). It provides an excellent opportunity for FET students to engage with students in DLSU-D as well as understanding the culture of the Philippines.
During the programme, the students were involved with Community Social Responsibility (CSR) project by organising a Basic AutoCAD workshop for high school students in the Philippines. As part of the CSR event, the students also experienced the mangrove reforestation activities by planting approximately 200 mangrove trees in the coastline of Batangas. They also attended workshops on Green University where they were exposed to the importance of conserving the nature and building a sustainable green campus. A Mechatronics workshop was also organized by DLSU-D to give the students a hands-on experience on pneumatics and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming for engineering. At the same time FET lecturer, Ms. Thong Li Wah conducted a Blended Learning exposure workshop to DLSU’s lecturers and the same time learning from DLSU-D about the strategies to create a green campus.
The students also visited some interesting places in the Philippines such as the National Museum of Natural History, Rizal Monument, Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum, Taal Basilica, Tagaytay city and Taal volcano. The exchange program proved to be a successful and beneficial event for the students. Both universities took the opportunity to discuss further on future collaborations and will continue to grow their partnership.
