The Industrial Linkage Committee, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering (FOE), hosted an insightful talk on 22 August 2024, aimed at undergraduates exploring the future of the telecommunications industry. The session, held at CLCR1025, featured Ir. Ts. Mohan Albert, Strategic Marketing Director of CTO Group Asia, ZTE Corporation. The talk was part of the IAP’s visit to the faculty and was attended by 55 students from various engineering majors.
During the session, Ir. Ts. Mohan highlighted the crucial steps for telecommunication engineering graduates to establish a successful career, starting with the importance of registering with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He outlined various career pathways and shared insights into the top ten roles for engineers in the telecommunications sector.
A key focus of his presentation was the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence in the industry. He explained how AI is becoming integral to telecommunications, particularly using advanced sensors for communication and detection. Ir. Ts. Mohan emphasised that the industry is transitioning towards an AI-driven future, where technologies like Large Language Models and machine learning will play pivotal roles in predicting trends and enhancing communication systems. The talk provided students with a forward-looking perspective on the evolving telecommunication landscape, preparing them for emerging opportunities in an AI-assisted era.
