FOE Hosts Insightful AI Talk with TM Analytics Team

On 20 August 2024, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) and Engineering Society organised an engaging industrial talk titled “Humans 2.0 – The Rise of AI” at TM Digital Academy. The event provided students with an in-depth look into artificial intelligence (AI) and its practical applications within Telekom Malaysia (TM).

The talk featured notable MMU FOE alumnus Muhammad Shahril Nizam, Assistant Manager of Data Science at TM and MMU FOM alumni Neha Bhubhindar Singh, Assistant Manager of Analytics Advocacy. Their participation highlighted the strong connection between MMU and TM, showcasing how alumni contribute to cutting-edge technological advancements.

The event began with a detailed presentation by Ts. Ahmad Shah Ahmad Tajudin, AGM Analytics & Data/MLOps at Group IT & Digital. He provided an overview of TM’s data ecosystem, including the TM Unified Data Lake, NERVE, and the key components of TM’s data infrastructure. Mr. Muhammad Shahril Nizam then offered valuable insights into AI, explaining the AI model lifecycle and differentiating between Generative AI and Discriminative AI. His presentation illuminated the evolving landscape of AI and its future potential.

One of the highlights of the talk was the discussion on practical AI applications within TM. Muhammad Shahril Nizam and Md Azrul Syaffiq Bin Md Suhaimi, Manager Data Scientist at Group Network Technology, showcased the Fixed Distribution Point (FDP) prediction model. This advanced model utilises satellite images and analyzes 83 variables to predict distribution points, demonstrating how AI enhances operational efficiency and strategic decision-making.

The event also included a networking session, allowing students to interact with industry experts and explore career opportunities in data science and AI. The talk underscored the significance of the collaboration between MMU and TM, illustrating how such engagements prepare students for successful careers in the dynamic fields of AI and data science.
