Samuel Soon Aun
Founder & CEO, Founder & CEO
(Bachelor Of Engineering (Honours) Electronics Majoring In Telecommunications, 1999)

Together with his wife, Samuel Soon Aun established a successful engineering company a couple of years after graduation, but in 2009, he pivoted and entered the insurance industry as a life and general insurance agent.

Today, Samuel is the owner and CEO of a full-fledged insurance agency, Anora Agency Sdn. Bhd — from offering life insurance solutions to individuals and their families to generating bespoke underwriting solutions for corporate clients from a diverse range of industries — with an annual gross premium of over RM23 million. Anora’s business also extends to the Southeast Asia region, where it works with insurers to underwrite approximately RM10bil worth of assets (ranging from marine, cargo, hull, engineering and machines, property and more).

The highlight of Samuel’s career so far is his role in creating Malaysia’s pioneer insurance scheme for the solar photovoltaic (PV) market, Solarpro, combining his engineering background with his passion for insurance. Launched in Oct 2018, this pioneering product is designed to protect residential, commercial, industrial and large-scale system owners against the lack of support for common PV system damages. To date, Solarpro is insuring over 100MW of solar PV systems in Malaysia.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Low Jing Xian
Associate Professor in the University of Science and Technology of China
(Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics majoring in Nanotechnology, 2012)

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Low Jing Xian has produced a working paper that has been listed as “China’s 100 Most Influential Papers” in China. The announcement was made by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, in recognition for his innovative work on solar energy.

Dr. Low and his team are working together to discover how solar energy could be utilised to convert carbon dioxide into natural gas. The result will help to solve the global energy crisis and to realize the “carbon cycle”. On top of that, the conversion also will be the guidance for industrial application in an effort to achieve the goals in the Paris Agreement on climate change. Dr. Low graduated from our university with an engineering degree in 2012, and he earned his Master’s and Ph.D. degree in materials science from the Wuhan University of Technology, China. He is currently attached to the University of Science and Technology of China as an associate professor.

Jimmy Yeap Thye Liang
Founder & CEO, Mintygreen Senior Residences Sdn. Bhd. and Wecare Mobile Services Sdn. Bhd.

In 2017, Jimmy Yeap Thye Liang founded 24 Angels Home Care (Wecare Mobile Services Sdn. Bhd.), a home health services provider in West Malaysia. The core services include in-house caregiver, home physiotherapy, hospital sitter and private nursing. His startup company was awarded 2nd Runner Up in the Ministry of Education Entrepreneurial Award 2017, under the category of Outstanding Student Enterprise Award.

Soon after, he established another subsidiary, Mintygreen Senior Residences Sdn. Bhd. in early 2018. Mintygreen has multiple chain of nursing and rehabilitation center based at Klang Valley. The core services include senior day care services, palliative care, cancer care, stroke rehabiliation, Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment and physiotherapy. Jimmy Yeap is also a notable alumni of the prestigious Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation and The Star Education Fund. In 2020, he was once again being awarded a postgraduate scholarship to pursue Master of International Business in Monash University.

He expressed his utmost gratitude to Entrepreneur Development Center and Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University for giving him the invaluable exposure and support in his 4 years of studies.

Dr. Kevin Koay Jun Yi
Postdoctoral Fellow, Academia Sinica, Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA)

In 2019, Dr. Kevin received the Faculty of Engineering Alumni Achievement Award from Multimedia University due to his contribution as part of the international team that captured the world’s first images of a black hole using the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).

Ko Chuan Zhen
Co-Founder & CEO at Plus Solar Systems Sdn. Bhd. & Leaf Energy Sdn. Bhd.

Ko Chuan Zhen co-founded +SOLAR (Plus Solar Systems Sdn. Bhd.), a solar energy solution company which has contributed in completing 20MWp out of 200MWp of solar systems of the Malaysia grid in 2014. +SOLAR, comprising a group of energetic young engineers who are passionate about green technologies is one of the leading solar companies in Malaysia,contributing 10% of the solar energy in Malaysia.

In 2019, Chuan Zhen was awarded EY Emerging Entreprenuer Of The Year 2019 and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 (The Star Outstanding Business Awards). He was also the Grand Winner Award of The Rising Star for The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) in 2015.

He has been an active participant in the global solar industry since his graduation in year 2008. He is a qualified Grid Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) engineer recognised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA). In addition, he had also completed the PV Applications and System Design training course at CES Solar Cells Testing Centre, from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand in 2009.

Ts. Noor Mohd Helmi Nong Hadzmi
CEO and Founder, IX Telecom Sdn. Bhd.
(Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics majoring in Telecommunications, 2003)

Ts. Noor Mohd Helmi Bin Nong Hadzmi is the founder and CEO of IX Telecom, a global virtual network operator and technology service provider that has service coverage in more than 200 countries. With offices in Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, Hong Kong and United States, the award winning IX Telecom is currently spreading its wings to other countries in the region and establishing itself as a major player in the industry. He has since then received Executive Education in Entrepreneurship from Stanford University and Big Data & Business Analytics from Harvard Business School, and won Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 Top Nominee in Technology Category. He was also the winner of Talent Corp Life at Work CEO Champion of the Year 2018 for SME and the BrandLaureate CEO Leadership Excellence Award 2018. He is also a professional technologist and has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Tan Aik Keong
Founder and Director, Agmo Studio Sdn. Bhd.

Tan Aik Keong is the founder and director of Agmo Studio Sdn. Bhd., a multi-awards winning mobile apps development company. He founded the company with his partners, Steven Low Kang Wen and Tham Chin Seng, who are both MMU graduates.

Aik Keong attests to the solid programming knowledge and exposure to the real-life industry via his final year project.

Today, his company has developed more than 70 mobile applications in iOS, Android and Blackberry platforms for reputable clienteles – MyEG Services Bhd., Amway, MATTA and Miss Universe Malaysia. It has also won multiple local and international ICT awards – ASEAN ICT Awards (Digital Content), Hong Kong Mobile Appsanity Awards, and MSC Malaysia APICTA (Best of Media and Entertainment).

Khairil Effendy Ahmad Dhman Huri
Managing Director, Nexagate Sdn. Bhd.

As founder and MD, Khairil has helped grow Nexagate into one of Malaysia’s trusted Cyber Security consulting and services provider, having served more than 200 major organizations across various verticals; with clients in Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos.

Khairil started his career in 2002 with TM, before moving to Shell IT, and later joined HP as Senior Network Consultant in 2006. With HP, he held a number of multi-million project portfolios, specializing in project management, network consultation and delivery services. In October 2010, he founded Nexagate.

Khairil is an active investor and advisor, whose Nexa Holdings vehicle is dedicated to accelerating Malaysian startups.

Sharizan Zaki Pondren
Senior Vice President – Sinarmas Cognitive and Big Data Group at Sinarmas Communication and Technology

Sharizan Zaki bin Pondren is an experienced techno-commercial professional with more than 17 years experience in the telecommunication industry. He has spend more than half of his career outside of Malaysia in different telecom markets within Asian region. Diversely involved in multiple pillars of telecom business ranging from technology strategy, deployment and operation, marketing/product development, customer experience, data science and analytics.

The multi-nationality and different ethnics exposure back in MMU days, helped him to develop a very unique leadership style and work efficiently in any cross-culture environment. Furthermore he is very passionate in helping young talents from all backgrounds of life and takes pride in developing the next techno-commercial generations of the future.

He is now working with 2nd biggest conglomerate corporation in Indonesia and serving the 4th largest populated country in the world – exploring the new “oil” of the future – Digital Data.

Dr. Ahmad Nasruddin ‘Atiqullah Fakrullah
Senior Director, Technology and Standards Division, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

Dr. Ahmad Nasruddin ‘Atiqullah is currently leading Technology and Standards Division in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the regulator for the converged communications and multimedia industry. He is also the chairman of 5G Testbed Working Group under National 5G Task Force that was established in 2019 and have been actively promoting 5G activities in Malaysia. Dr. Nasruddin served in MCMC since 2004, where he held various portfolios in Spectrum Planning Division (from 2004 until 2014) and was the Head for MCMC Academy (from 2015 to Mac 2019). He began his career as a telecommunication engineer in TM Touch prior joining MCMC.

He was amongst the pioneer who joined University Telekom (UNITELE) based in Bukit Beruang, Melaka before completing his final year in Cyberjaya campus. Dr. Nasruddin also holds Masters in Information Management from Universiti Teknologi MARA, and in March 2018, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Engineering (Engineering Business Management) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Zulakmar Hazwan
Director of Creztinno Technophiles, Founder & Director of Goodly Tree

Zulakmar Hazwan runs a company that provides technology engineering services.

In 2010, Zulakmar established InnoCrest as an engineering consultancy business. He introduced Working Knowledge Group for Telecommunication Engineers (WKG) in 2014 and helped Malaysian chartered engineers build their career path and share experience among the members. In 2016, he introduced Creztinno Technophiles to expand the InnoCrest’s scope of operation to offer business consultancy in the aspects of telecommunication. He finds that it is very important for him to have both knowledge and skills in engineering and business administration.

He says the additional exposure to entrepreneurship and management at MMU has taught him how to operate a corporation. Life in MMU developed his leadership and communication skills that helped him to become a technoprenuer.

Khairul Naim Zainal Abidin
Chief Security & Strategy Officer, Nexagate Sdn. Bhd.

(Bachelor Of Engineering (Honours) Electronics Majoring In Computer, 2002)

Khairul Naim has more than 17 years of experience in Information/Cyber Security working both in the end-user environment as well as a service provider. He holds several professional certifications such as CISSP, GHTQ, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, ITIL and JNCIA. As a CSSO he is responsible for helping organizations to go beyond technology to resolve their struggles, and to work with business executives to deliver solutions that create real value for organizations.

He is also a current board member in the Malaysia chapters of ISC2 and CREST (PPKS).

Ahmad Shoaib Abdul Rahim
Senior Advisor to Afghanistan’s State Ministry for Peace
(Bachelor Of Engineering (Honours) Electronics, 2008)

Shoaib Rahim is the former Acting Mayor of Kabul, a city of five million and the fifth fastest growing city in the world, as well Deputy Mayor for a total of nearly three years from 2016-2019. He previously served at the Ministry of Defense, most notably as Minister’s Senior Financial Advisor and Deputy Chief of Budget, overseeing the fiscal reforms in the Afghan National Army.

After graduating from Multimedia University, Shoaib went on to become a Fulbright Scholar and complete a Masters’ from Duke University. He is an Asia Society Young Leaders Fellow and a Rumsfeld Foundation’s Fellow. Shoaib has spoken in many regional and international forums such as Oxford University’s annual Challenges of Government Conference as well as Doha Forum, Youth-Edition.

Shoaib now serves as the Senior Advisor to Afghanistan’s State Ministry for Peace, where he is involved in efforts aiming at finding political solutions to the conflict in Afghanistan.

Prof. Dr. R Logeswaran A/L N. Rajasvaran
Head of the Asia Pacific Centre for Analytics (APCA) and Professor of Computing and Engineering at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU)
(Master of Engineering Science, 2000 and Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering), 2006)

Professor Dr. R. Logeswaran is Head of the Asia Pacific Centre for Analytics (APCA) and full Professor of Computing and Engineering at the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he also served as the Dean of Graduate Studies and chaired the university’s Research Committee. Prior to that, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology at Nilai University and before that, the Acting Dean of Engineering and Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Multimedia University, and thence Adjunct Professor. He studied his B.Eng (Hons) Computing at Imperial College London, United Kingdom, and completed his Master of Engineering Science (M.Eng.Sc.) as well as Ph.D. (Engineering) at Multimedia University, Malaysia. Additionally, Logeswaran is a Novell Certified Linux Professional, and also a certified IC Digital Citizen trainer. His areas of interests are mainly in medical image processing, data compression, neural networks and Data Science, with over 150 publications in books, peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings. He supervises projects at various levels from undergraduate to PhD, ensuring that proper research methodology and good teaching & learning practices are gained. He is a module leader of a number of modules and has been involved in the creations of numerous new programmes and courses, both for single and dual recognitions, gaining them successful accreditations.

An academic with over 20 years of experience in a number of institutions both in Malaysia and abroad, Logeswaran has been a recipient of several scholarships, recognized as the JCS 75th Anniversary Scholar for his Masters achievements and later awarded his post-doctoral research position in Seoul, Korea under the Brain Gain Malaysia international fellowship & post-doctoral programme as well as a Brain Korea21 programme. A Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), he is the Chair of the award-winning IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter, and also the Counselor/Advisor of the APU IEEE Student Branch. His involvement in the voluntary services gained him a medal for long and commendable service from the Malaysian government. Logeswaran has been a Keynote speaker, Guest of Honour and Invited Speaker to numerous international conferences and an also conducted a number of short courses abroad.

Associate Prof. Dr. Jeyraj A/L Selvaraj

Associate Prof. Dr. Jeyraj A/L Selvaraj was the chairperson in conjuction with Power And Energy Conversion Symposium 2012, UTEM and part of the working group on Solar Photovoltaic System, 2008, SIRIM.

Dr. Imadur Rahman
Senior Researcher in Radio Access Technology, Ericsson Research in Stockholm, Sweden
(Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics majoring in Telecommunications, 2000)

Imadur Rahman, from Bangladesh, completed his Masters degree in Radio Communications in 2003 at Helsinki University of Technology, Finland with a scholarship from Nokia. With another scholarship award by Samsung, he graduated with a Ph.D. in Wireless Communication at Aalborg University, Denmark in 2007. After a short stint in Aalborg University as an Assistant Research Professor and external researcher in Nokia Siemens Networks, he joined Ericsson Research in 2008. He is currently a Senior Researcher in Radio Access Technology at Ericsson Research in Stockholm, Sweden. He is part of the concept development team that is working towards 5G wireless system concepts.

Ir. Dr. Lee Meng Chuan
PDE Manager, Intel Corporation
(Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Electronics majoring in Computer, 2006, Master of Engineering in Microelectronics, 2012 and Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering), 2015)

During the 2015 convocation, Lee Meng Chuan  was awarded the Best Ph.D. Engineering Thesis. In the same year, his contribution in the semiconductor engineering field earned him an award as the Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE). Dr. Lee is now a Burn In PDE Manager at Intel Corporation, Penang.
