Acquiring Practical Insights into Real-World Business Operations
35 accounting students from the Faculty of Business (FOB) had the unique opportunity to visit two renowned Malaysian businesses – the Gardenia Factory and Beryl’s Chocolate Museum on 30 September 2024. Organised by FOB lecturers from the Diploma in Accounting program—Ms. Siow Yung Ern, Ms. Ng Woan Ming, Ms. Norliza Darus, and Ms. Fathiah Hashim—the educational trip aimed to provide students with practical insights into real-world business operations.
The day began with a tour of the Gardenia Factory, where students gained valuable exposure to the large-scale bread production process, along with essential knowledge in areas such as cost management, financial operations, and supply chain logistics. The tour offered them a hands-on perspective of how companies manage inventory control and apply accounting principles in a manufacturing environment.
In the afternoon, the group visited Beryl’s Chocolate Museum, where they explored the processes behind chocolate production and distribution. The museum visit allowed the students to delve into the intricacies of cost accounting and business operations in the food industry, rounding out a comprehensive educational experience.
The dual visitation was a vital learning opportunity for the students, providing practical exposure that complements their academic studies. The event underscores FOB’s commitment to preparing its students for future careers in accounting and finance through immersive, real-world experiences.
