FET Students Get Exposure from Industry Visit
In line with Faculty of Engineering (FET) direction to expose students more to industry practice, a group of 39 final year students of the Mechanical Engineering programme visited Impressive Edge Sdn. Bhd., which is located in Cheng, Melaka.
The visit was organised by the Industrial Linkage Committee (ILC) of FET, and was intended to give students a first-hand experience in industry-standard manufacturing processes. With two accompanying lecturers led by Dr. Lim Elaine, the group was welcomed by the Quality Management Representative, Ms. Yeow Soh Shi, upon arrival to the company.
Impressive Edge Sdn. Bhd., established in 1994, specialises in precision manufacturing, mass production and machining in the fields of electronics/semiconductor, solar industries, plastic and rubber industries, equipment engineering, aerospace industries, watch industries and solid state devices.
Considering that the industry is moving towards realising Industry 4.0, the visit is vital in helping the students understand the current state of technology in the Malaysian manufacturing industry. During the visit, the students were shown a variety of high precision machinery and processes. They were also shown how quality assurance applies in an industrial setup.
The three-hour visit proved to be a successful event and a beneficial one for the students. It also opened up an opportunity for FET to create more engagement activities with Impressive Edge Sdn. Bhd. in consultancy, knowledge exchange and research.
